Normally the first event of the year, in April, the Simon Mepham Mixed Marathon is a long distance ‘head race’ held at Thames Valley Skiff Club (TVSC) in memory of Simon Mepham. The race is open to double skiffs of all clubs, Mixed means one male and one female paddler.
The course is approximately 4 miles from TVSC, upstream via the Desborough Channel, turning into the old river below D’Oyly Carte Island, then downstream via Halliford Point, to finish back at the TVSC.
