WSPC O6 races Round Hayling Island Challenge

Wraysbury Dragons & Waka Ama entered an open outrigger canoe crew into OC6 category for the iconic HISC x SUPco.com Round Hayling Island Challenge race on the South coast of England. The course consisted of a 22.5km anti-clockwise circumnavigation around Hayling Island. This included passing through two gates, navigating the waters of Chichester and Langstone Harbours, the open sea of Hayling Bay, before finishing back at HISC (Hayling Island Sailing Club). Conditions throughout the course were very challenging, with standing waves and maelstroms even from the launch point as the crew approached the start line. The crew pushed through the formidable bar surrounding Hayling Island, battling unrelenting waves reaching 2m in height.

This was the first time competing at the Round Hayling Island Challenge for 5 out of 6 paddlers in the crew, thus the race became a true test of paddling determination and navigation. The crew faced fierce competition from numerous clubs across the country, with a total of 70 various water crafts entered into the 2025 event . Of the 12 entries in the OC6 category, Wraysbury Dragons & Waka Ama completed the course in a time of 2:29:30.
